B2B Fintech Marketing: The Playbook for Payments, Lending Tech and Banking Software
How companies selling to banks, NBFCs, insurers and enterprises win the committee, the review and the contract.
B2B fintech marketing is how a company that sells payments, lending or banking software to banks, NBFCs, insurers and enterprises wins those accounts. It works when you market to the whole buying committee, security, compliance and procurement included, focus on a named account list, publish proof reviewers can check, and measure pipeline by account.

01 · The definition
What is B2B fintech marketing?
The pilot went well and a start date went into the calendar. Then the bank’s vendor-risk questionnaire arrived, a long spreadsheet on data location, sub-contractors and audit rights, and the deal went quiet for a quarter. B2B fintech is often won or lost in that quarter, by people who never saw your campaign.
B2B fintech marketing is the work of winning and growing accounts for a company that sells financial technology to other businesses: payments, lending platforms, core and digital banking software, insurance technology and regtech. The buyer is a bank, a non-banking financial company (NBFC), an insurer or a large enterprise, so the sale is slow, involves many people and is checked by reviewers who do not read marketing.
Three terms run through this guide. Your ideal customer profile (ICP) describes the companies you serve best: institution type, size, regulator, technology stack and the event that makes them buy. Account-based marketing (ABM) treats a named list of companies as the market. The buying committee is everyone at the customer who can shape, approve or block the purchase.
Habits that win an app install mostly work against you here.
02 · The buyer
Who actually buys, and why is it a committee?
You sell to a group that decides by consensus. The sponsor who loves your demo is one vote.
Gartner, an independent research firm, surveyed 632 B2B buyers in August and September 2024 and reported in May 2025 that buying groups range from five to 16 people across as many as four functions. Groups that reached consensus were 2.5 times more likely to report a high-quality deal, and content written for the group’s shared goals helped them get there.
A second Gartner survey, of 646 buyers in August and September 2025, found 67% prefer to buy without a sales rep and 45% had used AI during a recent purchase. Give every seat an answer it can find alone.
| Seat | Typical title | Their question | What moves them |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sponsor | Head of digital or lending | Will this fix my problem this year? | A demo on their use case and a customer to call |
| Finance | CFO | What does it cost, and when does it pay back? | A cost model built on their own inputs |
| Technology | CIO, CTO | Will it fit our core system and cloud? | Reference architecture and API documentation |
| Security | Information security head | What can go wrong with our data? | A security overview and certifications with scope |
| Compliance and risk | Compliance, vendor risk | Does this keep us inside our regulator’s rules? | A product-to-rules mapping and a named contact |
| Procurement and legal | Procurement, legal | Can we contract on our terms? | Standard terms and clear pricing logic |
| Users | Operations teams | Will this make my day harder? | A training plan and a short pilot |
Titles vary; an NBFC or insurer has the same seats, held by fewer people. A bank in the UAE or Saudi Arabia answers to the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) or the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA), so its compliance seat brings local rules.
03 · The message
How should a B2B fintech position itself?
Position for the decision the committee makes, not your feature list. The line has to survive being forwarded to the CFO without you.
For [institution type] that [trigger or problem], [product] is the [category] that [outcome the buyer can verify], unlike [current alternative], because [proof a reviewer can check].
Write the proof first. A claim on your own website reads as marketing to a risk reviewer; a certification with its scope, a public API reference or a customer who agreed to be named does not.
- Selling to large banks and insurers? Lead with control: continuity, audit, data residency and fit with the systems they run.
- Selling to NBFCs, small finance banks or fintech lenders? Lead with speed: time to launch, cost per account and how fast you ship rule changes.
- Selling to both? Use separate pages. One page cannot argue control and speed at once.
A committee judges your website, deck and security page before it meets you, so identity is part of positioning; see fintech visual identity and signal strategy. 04 · The scorecard
How do you check your marketing reaches the whole committee?
Use the Committee Coverage Scorecard, a Yamm Labs worksheet that scores how well your marketing serves each seat on a target account’s committee.
Score each seat 0 to 2. A 0: the seat finds nothing from you. A 1: it finds something generic. A 2: it finds an asset written for its own question, usable without a call.
| Seat | An asset that scores 2 | What a 0 looks like | Score (0 to 2) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sponsor | A use-case page and demo for their institution type | A homepage and a contact form | __ |
| Finance | A cost and payback model the buyer fills in | “Contact us for pricing” | __ |
| Technology | Public API documentation and a reference architecture | A brochure promising easy integration | __ |
| Security | A public security page and a downloadable overview | Answers kept in one engineer’s inbox | __ |
| Compliance and risk | A page mapping the product to each regulator’s rules | A logo wall in place of evidence | __ |
| Procurement and legal | Published standard terms and a data-processing summary | Terms first seen at contract stage | __ |
| Users | A short training and rollout plan | No mention of the people who use it | __ |
Reading your total
Add the seven scores, out of 14.
0 to 6: you are marketing to one person. 7 to 10: the committee can find you, but review will slow the deal. 11 to 14: every seat has something to read, so account-based campaigns can start. These bands are our working rule, not an industry benchmark.
The step teams skip
Trust assets before ads.
Teams launch campaigns before the security, compliance and procurement rows score 1. The ads then create meetings that wait in review. Build those rows first.
05 · The plan
How do you start? Eight steps for the first quarter
Start with the list and the trust pack, then spend.
-
Write the ICP and the triggers.
Institution types, sizes, regulators, and the events that start a purchase, such as a new licence or a core system change.
-
Pick and tier the accounts.
Tier 1 you treat one by one, tier 2 in clusters that share a message, tier 3 through programmes.
-
Map each committee by role.
Record seats and titles, not personal profiles. India’s Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act, 2023 covers the digital personal data you collect.
-
Build the trust pack.
Security page and overview, compliance mapping, standard terms and a named contact.
-
Write the position and three proof points.
Each proof point needs a source a reviewer can open.
-
Choose channels by tier.
Outreach and events for tier 1, LinkedIn for tier 2, search and content for tier 3.
-
Agree pipeline definitions with sales.
Engaged account, qualified opportunity and sourced pipeline, written down before the first campaign.
-
Review monthly and cut.
Keep what moves target accounts to a meeting or through review. Drop what only adds clicks.
06 · The channels
How do ABM and LinkedIn work for selling to banks?
ABM suits selling to banks because the market is a list you can name. The catch: the list is short, and platform minimums assume longer ones.
LinkedIn’s help pages, as of October 2026, say a company list needs at least 300 rows to upload and must match at least 300 members to run, and LinkedIn recommends 1,000 or more companies. A tier-one list of a few dozen banks will not upload alone, so run company-list campaigns on wider clusters and reach the named few through people.
Thought Leader Ads let a company promote public posts by its employees, creators or other members, with each member’s permission, for awareness and engagement objectives; LinkedIn lists documents, polls, multi-image posts and celebrations as ineligible. Brief your experts on cleared claims before they write. A post earns a bank buyer’s attention when it explains what a new rule changes, shows a solved problem in detail or shares data with its method.
On Lead Gen Forms, LinkedIn requires a privacy policy URL and offers optional disclosure checkboxes that you switch on yourself. Indian law ties consent to a stated purpose, so add one checkbox per use.
07 · The room
Do events and sales enablement still matter?
Yes, when they serve the seats that block deals.
Events
Pick by the seats in the room.
A fintech conference reaches sponsors; a closed roundtable for security or risk heads reaches reviewers. Book meetings with target accounts before the booth, and judge the event on those meetings, not badge scans.
Sales enablement
Build for the meeting the rep misses.
Gartner found most buyers prefer to buy without a rep, so build pieces each seat can use alone: a brief per seat, the cost model, the security overview and an implementation plan. Use customer stories only with written approval.
08 · The review
How do you get through security and procurement review?
Treat the review as a marketing deliverable. The questions are predictable, so publish the answers first.
In India the questions come from the regulator. The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Commercial Banks – Managing Risks in Outsourcing Directions, 2025, issued on 28 November 2025, require due diligence before a bank signs or renews an outsourcing arrangement. For IT services it covers infrastructure stability, backup and disaster recovery, separation of the bank’s data, cyber security risk and the bank’s access to its data. Outsourcing does not reduce the bank’s obligations, and the contract must let RBI inspect the provider.
Lending tech adds a layer. RBI’s Digital Lending Directions of 8 May 2025 require enhanced due diligence on a lending service provider’s technology, data privacy and storage, fairness to borrowers, conduct record and ability to comply. They also say a partner app’s inclusion in a lender’s reporting to RBI must not be presented in marketing as RBI registration, authorisation or endorsement. RBI revises its directions from time to time, so confirm the current text with compliance.
If you hold ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification for your information security management system, state which entities and products it covers.
| Trust pack item | Who reads it | What it must answer |
|---|---|---|
| Public security page | Security, technology | Data location, protection, incident reporting, certifications and their scope |
| Security overview, ungated | Security, vendor risk | Architecture, access control, recovery, sub-processors and testing |
| Compliance mapping | Compliance and risk | Which of the buyer’s rules your product touches, without promising compliance |
| Standard terms | Procurement, legal | Audit and inspection rights, data location, sub-contracting and exit |
| Answer bank and named contact | Every seat | Dated, owned answers, and one person who replies within an agreed time |
Gulf buyers bring their own regulator’s questions; ask for the questionnaire at the first meeting. This is general guidance, not legal advice; your compliance team decides.
09 · The content
Should B2B fintech content be gated or ungated?
Ungate anything that helps a committee decide. Gate only what you will follow up on personally.
A gate asks a reviewer for personal data before they can work, and hides the page from AI assistants, which 45% of buyers in Gartner’s March 2026 release had used during a recent purchase.
If you gate in India, follow the DPDP Act, 2023: consent must be free, specific, informed, unconditional and unambiguous, given by a clear affirmative action, with or after a notice stating the data, the purpose, how to exercise rights and how to complain to the Data Protection Board. Withdrawing consent must be comparable in ease to giving it. The DPDP Rules, 2025, notified on 14 November 2025, add standalone consent notices and an 18-month phased timeline. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
| Asset | Gate it? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Security overview | No | Reviewers need it to keep the deal moving |
| Pricing logic | No | Finance will not wait for a call |
| Guides and API docs | No | Search engines and AI assistants cite only what they can read |
| Custom cost model or workshop | Yes | You will spend time with them, so a form is fair |
| Event registration | Yes | Ask only for what running the event needs |
10 · The numbers
How do you measure B2B fintech pipeline?
Measure accounts and opportunities, not leads. A committee buys; a lead is one person.
- Account engagement rate. Target accounts with two or more seats engaged in 30 days ÷ all target accounts.
- Qualified opportunity rate. Target accounts with a sales-accepted opportunity ÷ all target accounts.
- Cost per qualified opportunity. Marketing spend ÷ sales-accepted opportunities.
- Time in review. Median days from opportunity to security and compliance sign-off.
- Win rate. Wins ÷ closed opportunities, target accounts against the rest.
Take a hypothetical payments company spending ₹6 lakh a month on 120 target accounts. After a quarter it has spent ₹18 lakh and sales has accepted nine opportunities: ₹18,00,000 ÷ 9 = ₹2,00,000 per qualified opportunity. Four of the nine are stuck in security review. More ads will not move them; a published security overview might. Here the next rupee does more in review than at the top of the funnel.
Attribution in committee sales is hard, because the person who clicks rarely signs. Report these measures as directional, and agree with finance which one decides the budget.
11 · The memo
What to tell your CFO and your compliance team
Two notes to paste into an email. Fill in the brackets.
For your CFO
We will spend ₹[amount] over [two quarters] on [number] named accounts, judged on qualified opportunities from that list and cost per qualified opportunity, reported monthly against figures sales has accepted. If fewer than [number] target accounts reach a qualified opportunity by the end of the second quarter, we stop or change the plan. Leads and clicks will not decide the budget.
For your compliance team
Our content makes these claims: [list], each linked to a source in our claims record. Disclosures appear [where]; certifications are described with their scope. Promoted expert posts are reviewed by [role] before publishing, with approvals kept in [system]. Lead forms ask for consent per purpose and link to our privacy notice.
This is general guidance, not legal advice; your compliance team decides.
12 · The limits
When is this playbook the wrong choice?
This playbook fits a considered sale to regulated institutions. Skip it in five situations.
- You sell self-serve to small merchants who sign up online. Run product-led growth.
- You cannot yet pass a security review. Fix the product, controls and certification first.
- Your market is thousands of firms with one buyer each. Demand generation costs less.
- One anchor customer brings most of your revenue. That calls for account management and a joint roadmap, not a campaign.
- The activity needs a licence or approval you do not yet hold. Wait for it, then say exactly what it covers.
If none of these applies, the committee is your market.
Your ad reaches the sponsor. Your security page reaches the person who can say no.

Frequently asked questions
What is B2B fintech marketing?
It is how a company that sells payments, lending, banking or insurance technology to other businesses wins and grows accounts. The buyers are banks, NBFCs, insurers and large enterprises, so the work centres on the buying committee, a named account list, checkable proof and pipeline measured by account.
Who sits on the buying committee for fintech software at a bank?
Expect a business sponsor, finance, technology, information security, compliance and risk, procurement and legal, and the teams who will use the product. Gartner reported in May 2025 that B2B buying groups range from five to 16 people across as many as four functions.
Does account-based marketing work for selling to banks and NBFCs?
Yes, because the market is a list of named institutions. LinkedIn needs at least 300 rows to upload a company list, so target wider clusters there and reach the top few accounts through sales outreach, events and posts from your own experts.
Should B2B fintech content be gated?
Gate only what you will follow up on personally, such as a custom cost model or a workshop. Keep security overviews, pricing logic, documentation and guides ungated so reviewers and AI assistants can read them, and follow the consent rules of the DPDP Act, 2023 when you collect personal data in India.
How do you measure B2B fintech marketing?
Measure by account: target accounts with two or more committee seats engaged, qualified opportunities accepted by sales, cost per qualified opportunity, time in security review and win rate on target accounts. Report leads and clicks, but do not let them set the budget.
Is LinkedIn worth it for B2B fintech marketing?
Usually, because people on bank and insurer committees list their roles there. Use company-list targeting for account clusters, Thought Leader Ads to promote posts by your own experts with their permission, and Lead Gen Forms with a privacy policy link and one consent checkbox per purpose.
