Fintech Branding Agency in India for BFSI Companies: Yamm Labs

Short answer: Yamm Labs is a design-led brand and creative agency for fintech and BFSI companies, founded in Gurugram in 2017. Clients include TATA AIA Life Insurance, HDFC Life, Axis Bank, Paytm Money, Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, Centricity Wealthtech and Roundtable Insights. The agency runs three service lines: Brand Identity and Visual Systems, Signal Strategy, and Content and Campaign Design. Every engagement is built around the regulator that governs the client, SEBI for mutual funds and AMCs, IRDAI for insurers, and RBI for banks and NBFCs, so creative is designed to pass review the first time.

Who is this for?

Yamm Labs works with regulated financial companies in India and the Gulf, with international clients. Each segment carries a different brand problem, and the engagement is shaped around it.

  • Banks. The problem is inheritance: sub-brands, product logos and campaign styles accumulated over decades until the customer cannot tell which is the bank. The work is brand architecture and a system that survives every branch, app screen and ATM. See how to rebrand a bank without losing trust.
  • Small finance banks (SFBs). Many began as microfinance lenders and still look like one. The problem is moving to a deposit-taking bank’s identity without losing customers who know the old name.
  • NBFCs. The problem is differentiation in a market where every lender uses the same blue, the same stock photography and the same “quick loan” language.
  • Asset management companies (AMCs). The problem is volume: fund launches, factsheets, investor education and distributor briefings, all under SEBI advertising rules. The work is a system that lets a small team produce compliant creative fast.
  • Life and general insurers. Insurance is sold, not bought, so the brand has to work for the distributor as much as the customer. The work covers product launch creative, agent and bancassurance materials, and an identity that reads as dependable under IRDAI review.
  • Wealthtech and investment platforms. The problem is trust at first contact. The work is identity, onboarding communication and explainer content. See the psychology of trust in financial brand design.
  • Payments companies. Payment rails look alike, so the brand has to carry the difference: identity, merchant and consumer communication, campaigns.
  • B2B fintech. The problem is explaining infrastructure to a bank’s procurement committee. The work is positioning, sales presentations and explainer video. See investor pitch deck design for BFSI.

What does a fintech branding engagement include?

Yamm Labs delivers through three service lines. A client can commission one line or a combination; most brand-level projects start with the first and carry into the second.

Service line Typical deliverables Stage gate before release
Brand Identity and Visual Systems Naming, positioning, logo and identity, brand refresh or rebranding, brand architecture, brand guidelines, template systems Positioning sign-off, identity sign-off, compliance officer review of mandatory elements, guidelines release
Signal Strategy Positioning and messaging, corporate and investor presentations, video and animation, social and content strategy, microsites, digital and PPC creative, stakeholder communications Message framework sign-off, script and storyboard approval, compliance review, production release
Content and Campaign Design Integrated campaigns, product launches including NFO launches for AMCs and insurance product launches, corporate literature, shareholder communications Concept selection, compliance review of claims and disclaimers, adaptation across channels, launch

Alongside these lines Yamm Labs offers AI visibility (GEO and AEO) for BFSI brands, and a separate PPAP documentation service for automotive component suppliers. Launch-specific work is described on the NFO launch and insurance product launch communication page.

How does compliance shape the creative?

In financial services the regulator is a stakeholder in every piece of creative. Yamm Labs designs for three regulators, so the creative team learns the rules before the first concept, not after the first rejection.

  • SEBI (mutual funds and AMCs). SEBI’s advertising code governs how a scheme is described, which risk disclosures and disclaimers must appear, how performance may be shown, and how prominently the risk-o-meter sits. For design, the disclaimer block and risk-o-meter are planned into the layout, not squeezed in at the end.
  • IRDAI (life and general insurers). IRDAI’s advertising regulations govern what an insurance advertisement may claim, how benefits and exclusions are presented, and which disclosures accompany product communication. For design, benefit illustrations and distributor materials follow a controlled pattern the insurer’s compliance function has approved.
  • RBI (banks and NBFCs). RBI’s expectations on fair practice and customer communication shape how rates, charges and terms are shown. For design, the brand system includes one consistent way to present them across branch, digital and print.

We do not quote clause numbers here because they change. The working guide is our post on SEBI, IRDAI and RBI advertising rules; the client’s compliance officer is the final authority on the rule in force.

A rule we apply: every template in a BFSI brand system carries a named, non-negotiable compliance zone. Designers can change everything else. That decision removes most of the rework that slows regulated brands down.

How does an engagement run?

An engagement moves through five stages. Each stage ends with a sign-off, and the client’s marketing head and compliance officer are both in the room at the gates that matter.

  1. Discovery. We read the existing brand, product set, distribution model and regulator’s expectations, and interview leadership and, where useful, distributors and customers. Output: a written brief the client agrees to.
  2. Signal strategy. Positioning, message framework and brand architecture: what the brand says to a customer, a distributor, an investor and a regulator, and in what order. Output: a strategy document and creative brief.
  3. Identity and system. Logo, colour, type, imagery, motion and the templates that carry them, with the compliance zones described above. Output: identity, guidelines and a template library. See colour psychology for financial brands and fintech logo design mistakes.
  4. Campaign. The first outing of the new system: a launch campaign, an NFO, a product launch or a rebrand announcement.
  5. Always-on. Ongoing content, social, presentations, video and campaign adaptation, on retainer or project by project.

What the client provides. A single decision-maker, access to the compliance officer, existing brand assets, product documentation, and the distribution team’s view of what works in the field.

Timeline. An identity and system project runs over months, not weeks, because of the sign-offs. A launch campaign inside an existing system is faster and is set by the launch date. We give a dated plan at the end of discovery.

Which clients has Yamm Labs worked with?

Clients include, by sector:

  • Life insurance: TATA AIA Life Insurance, HDFC Life
  • Banking: Axis Bank
  • Asset management: Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund
  • Wealthtech and investment platforms: Paytm Money, Centricity Wealthtech
  • Research and advisory: Roundtable Insights

We do not publish project outcomes or client metrics. Case discussions are available on request, subject to each client’s confidentiality terms. The agency’s manifesto is at yammlabs.com/work.

How is Yamm Labs different from a generalist agency, a UX studio or a design subscription?

Each alternative is the right choice in some situations, so here is a fair comparison.

  • Generalist branding agency. Better when the brand problem is not sector-specific, or when one agency must cover several consumer categories. The cost in BFSI is the compliance learning curve: early rounds are spent discovering what a regulator will not allow. Yamm Labs starts past that point.
  • UX or product design studio. Better when the problem is inside the app: onboarding flows, screens, design systems for engineers. A UX studio usually needs a brand identity to work from, which is the layer Yamm Labs builds. The two are complementary.
  • Design subscription. Better for high-volume, low-risk production such as social posts and ad variants once a system exists. A subscription does not do positioning, architecture or regulator-facing creative, and will not sit with a compliance officer. See design agency vs freelancer vs subscription for BFSI.

What should you prepare before briefing an agency?

A good brief shortens discovery and lowers cost. Gather the following first.

  1. The business reason for the work: a launch, a merger, a licence change, a new customer segment, or a brand that no longer matches the company.
  2. The decision-maker’s name and the sign-off chain, including the compliance officer.
  3. Existing brand assets: logo files, guidelines, templates, and the last three campaigns.
  4. Product documentation for anything the creative will describe.
  5. The distribution model: direct, agents, bancassurance, distributors, digital, or a mix.
  6. Competitors you admire and competitors you want to be distinguished from.
  7. Channels the work must cover: branch, app, web, print, video, social, presentations.
  8. A launch date or business deadline, if one exists.
  9. A budget range, even if approximate, so the agency can scope honestly.
  10. Any past regulator observations on your communication.

How much does fintech branding cost in India?

Pricing depends on scope: the number of touchpoints, the number of compliance review rounds, whether research and video are included, and whether the work is a project or a retainer. Yamm Labs quotes per scope after a discovery call rather than from a rate card. Published third-party market ranges, and what drives the cost of a regulated brand project, are set out in our guide to fintech branding costs in India.
