The launch communication for a new fund lands in a Singapore compliance inbox on a Tuesday afternoon. It was built by the regional head office: a six-frame Instagram carousel, a fifteen-second vertical film and a banner set. The returns chart sits on frame two. The risk line sits on frame six. The film closes on a benefit, and the disclosure text is on screen for less time than it takes to read it aloud. Nothing in the creative is false. It still goes back to the studio, because in Singapore the order of the frames is a regulatory question, not a taste question.

The short answer: A fund or insurance launch in Singapore is designed around the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s expectations: every advertisement must be fair and balanced on its own, key risks must be legible and prominent, and product advertisements carry a fixed statement that MAS has not reviewed them. Those rules decide where the risk line sits on a carousel, how long a disclosure stays on screen in a film, and what goes into the distributor and creator kits. Plan the disclosure system first, then the idea.

What does MAS expect from a fund or insurance launch advertisement in Singapore?

The Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) regulates banks, insurers, fund managers and financial advisers in Singapore. For launch communication, four sets of MAS expectations matter most.

First, the advertising requirements for investment products. MAS’s frequently asked questions on fair and balanced advertising explain that advertisements for investment products should be fair and balanced, and clear and legible. This applies to all product advertisements unless an exemption applies, not only to those aimed at retail investors, although the sophistication of the audience is taken into account. The same FAQs describe a minimum type size of 10-point Times New Roman, or a visually equivalent standard font, for product advertisements, and note that chart labels are not held to that minimum but must still be clear and legible.

Second, a fixed statement. Product advertisements carry the sentence “This advertisement has not been reviewed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.” MAS does not allow words to be swapped, so “publication” or “document” cannot replace “advertisement”. The statement can be translated if the meaning is kept. For size-limited digital advertisements that link to a product or campaign website, the statement can sit clearly on the main page of that website instead.

Third, the Guidelines on Standards of Conduct for Digital Advertising Activities, issued on 25 September 2025 and in effect from 25 March 2026. They apply to financial institutions and their digital marketers, a term that covers influencers, affiliate marketers and advertising agencies. Each advertisement must not be misleading when viewed on its own. Highlighting benefits in the post and parking risks on a separate webpage is named as inappropriate.

Fourth, the fund rulebook. MAS’s Code on Collective Investment Schemes points managers of retail funds to an industry code of advertising practice for funds and investment-linked life insurance policies, jointly issued by the Investment Management Association of Singapore and the Life Insurance Association. The prospectus and the Product Highlights Sheet are treated as disclosure documents required by law, not as advertisements, so the campaign cannot lean on them to balance a one-sided post.

Which design decisions do MAS rules force on Singapore launch communication?

Competitors describe themselves as compliance-aware. The useful test is whether they can show the decision. Here are the three we would make first on any Singapore fund or insurance launch.

  • Frame one carries the risk. MAS’s digital guidelines allow carousel disclosures either on every frame or on the first frame. Most brand teams want frame one for the hook. We give frame one a disclosure band from the start, sized to the minimum type and set against a calm background, and write the hook to share the frame with it. The alternative, a repeating footer band on every frame, takes height from every frame, so the illustrations are drawn for the shorter canvas from day one.
  • The statement is part of the lockup. The “not reviewed by MAS” sentence cannot be reworded, so it cannot be squeezed into a shorter line to save space. We treat it as a fixed element in the logo lockup system, with a two-line and a three-line version, so no static goes to review without it. For banners too small to hold it, the statement moves to the main page of the campaign site, and that page is designed and reviewed as an advertisement in its own right.
  • The film is cut to the disclosure, not the other way round. MAS expects on-screen text disclosures to stay visible long enough to be read fully. We write the disclosure first, count the words, and give the end card the time a reader needs. On a short film that time comes out of the story, so the script is written knowing how many seconds are left.

These are layout decisions with a rule behind them. Made at the brief stage, they cost little. Made after the first review, they cost a round of redesign on every asset.

What we’ve learned across 320+ projects: the disclosure that is designed before the idea rarely delays a launch; the one added after the first review usually costs a full round of redesign.

How should a fund launch window be sequenced in Singapore?

A fund launch in Singapore, what Indian teams would call an NFO, often involves many parties: a manager, often a regional head office, a local compliance function, distributing banks and platforms, and sometimes paid creators. MAS’s guidelines say the board and senior management of a Singapore-licensed institution are accountable for digital advertisements even when a foreign head office produced them. That puts the local compliance team at the start of the plan, not the end.

The sequence we plan to:

  1. Lock the product facts. Fees, risks, holding-period conditions and any performance figures come from the offer documents and are frozen before copy starts.
  2. Build the disclosure system. Type sizes, the statement lockup, the carousel band, the video end card and the landing-page hero are designed and approved once, as a kit.
  3. Write the idea inside the system. Concepts are presented already carrying their disclosures, so compliance reviews the real asset, not a clean mock-up.
  4. Clear the approval path. MAS’s FAQs note that senior management can delegate advertisement approval to other staff or a committee. Agree who that is before the first review round, not during it.
  5. Brief distributors and creators. Kits go out only after the core assets are approved, with the disclosure elements locked.
  6. Go live with a register. Every post, account and flight date is logged so the institution can find, change or pull any advertisement quickly, as MAS expects.

The planning detail for the Indian side of the same work is in our NFO launch kit and 30-day checklist. The steps differ; the principle of disclosure first does not.

What changes when you brief distributors, banks and finfluencers in Singapore?

Distributor communication is where launch campaigns most often drift out of shape, because the manager no longer controls the final placement.

  • Two tracks for distributor material. MAS’s FAQs say product training materials and brochures given to distributors are not advertisements if they are not passed on to clients, but may become advertisements if they are passed on to solicit investment. We design two clearly labelled tracks: an internal training deck, and client-facing pieces that have been cleared as advertisements.
  • Decks carry the statement too. For seminar and conference decks that promote a product, MAS expects the “not reviewed by MAS” statement to reach every recipient, for example through the conference materials. We put it on the title slide template so it cannot be forgotten.
  • Creators get a locked brief. MAS’s digital guidelines expect clear disclosure of sponsorship or commercial arrangements, and of whether an individual creator is licensed to give regulated financial advice. They also note that an institution may bar creators from adding their own unapproved content to a video advertisement. Our creator kit includes the disclosure line as a fixed caption and on-screen element, and a short list of what the creator may and may not say.
  • Re-posts count. MAS treats re-posting or sharing content, including testimonials, as disseminating an advertisement. The social calendar includes a rule for what the brand account may share.
In Singapore, the order of the frames is a compliance decision before it is a creative one.

How is an insurance product launch different from a fund launch in Singapore?

For investment-linked life insurance policies, the starting point is close to a fund launch. The industry advertising code that MAS’s fund rulebook points to covers both collective investment schemes and investment-linked policies, and the digital advertising guidelines apply to all financial institutions that advertise on digital media, insurers included.

Two disclosures from MAS’s digital guidelines need the most design attention on insurance and fund creative alike. Where advertised returns depend on a holding period, that condition must be stated clearly. Where illustrative or historical returns are shown, they must come with a clear statement that past returns do not indicate future performance. We place both statements next to the number they qualify, in the same visual block, so no crop or resize can separate them.

Indian insurance teams will recognise the pattern from IRDAI’s advertising rules, and Indian fund teams from SEBI’s standard risk disclaimer. The discipline carries across markets: the caveat travels with the claim.

How does Yamm Labs work with fund and insurance teams in Singapore?

Yamm Labs is a design-led brand agency founded in Gurugram in 2017. We serve clients in India first, and work with clients in the Gulf and other international markets remotely from our Gurugram office. We do not have an office, a licence or a named client in Singapore, and we do not give regulatory or legal advice. Your compliance team and your legal counsel remain the approvers; our job is to build a launch system that reaches them already carrying its disclosures.

In practice, a Singapore engagement runs from our Gurugram studio. Singapore is two and a half hours ahead of India, so review calls fit inside a shared working day. Our clients in India include TATA AIA Life Insurance, HDFC Life, Axis Bank, Paytm Money and Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund. The scope of a launch engagement is described on our NFO launch communication agency page.

Launch pages are also read by AI answer engines, which quote passages out of context. A page where every claim carries its own caveat is safer to quote, which is the same discipline MAS asks of a single post. Our GEO and AEO FAQ for financial brands covers how that works.

What mistakes does launch communication in Singapore commonly make?

Most review rounds that go badly trace back to a handful of habits carried over from other markets. Each one follows from the MAS expectations described above.

  • The risk line on the last frame. A carousel that saves its disclosure for the final frame fails the stand-alone test, because a viewer can stop after frame two.
  • A reworded MAS statement. Designers shorten the fixed sentence to fit a banner. The wording cannot change, so the fix is a two-line or three-line lockup, or the campaign site’s main page for size-limited ads.
  • A film scripted before the disclosure. The end card gets whatever seconds are left, which is rarely enough to read it in full.
  • Relying on the prospectus. The Product Highlights Sheet and prospectus are disclosure documents, not balance for a one-sided post.
  • Creators briefed loosely. A creator who adds unapproved claims, or omits the sponsorship line, puts the institution’s advertisement out of shape.

These are principles drawn from the rules as described on this page. Confirm the current text with your compliance team before each launch.

People also ask

Does every fund advertisement in Singapore need the “not reviewed by MAS” statement?

MAS requires product advertisements to carry the sentence “This advertisement has not been reviewed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore.” with no substitution of words. For size-limited digital ads that link to a campaign website, the statement can sit clearly on that website’s main page instead.

Can the risk disclosure sit on the last frame of a carousel?

Not on its own. MAS’s digital advertising guidelines expect carousel disclosures on every frame or on the first frame, so each post stays fair and balanced when viewed alone.

Are advertisements made by a foreign head office covered by MAS rules?

Yes. MAS expects the person in Singapore responsible for distributing an advertisement to ensure it complies, and holds the board and senior management of the Singapore-licensed institution accountable for digital advertisements even when a head office team produced them.

Can an agency outside Singapore run a Singapore fund launch campaign?

It can design and produce the campaign, provided the institution’s compliance team approves every asset and keeps oversight of what is published. Advertising agencies count as digital marketers under MAS’s guidelines, so the institution should brief them on its advertising practices and monitor their work.

What should launch communication for a Singapore fund include first?

The disclosure system. Before any concept, design the locked type size, the “not reviewed by MAS” lockup, the carousel risk band, the video end card and the landing-page hero. Concepts are then written inside that system, so compliance reviews real assets rather than clean mock-ups. Confirm the current requirements with your compliance team.
