A product head at a Jakarta e-wallet types the question her customers type into ChatGPT, in Bahasa Indonesia: which digital wallet is safe and licensed? The answer names three rivals. When she asks about her own brand by name, the engine says it is supervised by OJK, which is only half the story, quotes a cashback offer that ended last quarter, and leaves out the fee that her compliance team made sure sits on every screen of the app.
Perplexity and Google AI Mode give two more versions. None of the engines is guessing out of malice. Each one builds its answer from whatever it can read about the brand, and what it can read is thin, dated and split across two languages. In Indonesia that is an AI visibility problem and a disclosure problem at the same time.

How do AI engines answer “which bank, insurer or fintech in Indonesia” prompts?
When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Copilot or Claude which bank, insurer, e-wallet or lending app to use in Indonesia, the engine does not look up a ranking. It assembles an answer from pages it can retrieve and parse: the firm’s own website, regulator pages, news coverage, app-store listings, comparison sites and forum threads. It compresses those into a few sentences and, on some engines, a short list of citations.
Three things decide whether your brand survives that compression. First, whether the engine is sure who you are. A firm with a legal name ending in PT and Tbk, a shorter trading name, an app name and an old group name can look like four entities, and engines hedge or merge them. Second, whether your pages answer the question in words the engine can lift whole. A product page built around a promo banner and a download button gives the engine nothing to quote. Third, whether other sources agree with you. If your website, your app listing and the press describe your licence differently, the engine picks one, and it may pick the wrong one.
Indonesia adds two factors of its own. The first is language. A prompt in Bahasa Indonesia can surface different sources from the same prompt in English, so a brand that publishes only English answer pages can be invisible to a large share of its own customers’ questions. The second is the split between regulators. OJK supervises banking, capital markets and non-bank financial institutions, while Bank Indonesia licenses and oversees payment service providers and e-money operators. Banking supervision itself moved from Bank Indonesia to OJK at the start of 2014, and engines trained on older material still blur the two. Calling a payment licensee a bank, or naming the wrong supervisor, is a factual error in a regulated category.
Which Indonesian regulators shape what a financial brand can publish?
Two bodies matter for most financial brands in Jakarta. OJK, Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority, sets conduct rules for the banks, insurers, securities firms, finance companies and other non-bank financial institutions it supervises. Its consumer and public protection regulation from 2023 treats disclosure and transparency of product information as a core principle. It bars providers from spreading information that is inaccurate, incomplete, ambiguous, false or misleading, and from delivering a product that does not match what the original advertisement said. It also expects a product summary, known as RIPLAY, in a general and a personalised version, with simulations or illustrations where they apply, and agreements written in Bahasa Indonesia.

Bank Indonesia’s consumer protection regulation, also from 2023, covers the payment service providers, money service businesses and money market participants it regulates. It requires information on costs, benefits, risks, terms and conditions and consequences to be clear, accurate, honest, easily accessible and not misleading, written in easy-to-understand Indonesian and easy-to-read text. It applies the same standard to marketing and advertising. It also requires consumers to be told about changes to product information before the change takes effect, and its sanctions range from written warnings to revoking a product or business licence.
Whether an answer page or FAQ counts as marketing is a question for your compliance and legal teams, not for an agency. Our working assumption is simple: any page written to be quoted by an engine to a potential customer should pass the same review as an advertisement. The table shows what that assumption changes.
| Regulator | What it governs | The design decision it forces |
|---|---|---|
| OJK | Banks, insurers, capital market firms, finance companies and other non-bank financial institutions; product information that is not inaccurate, incomplete, ambiguous or misleading; a RIPLAY product summary; agreements in Bahasa Indonesia | Every answer page takes its numbers from the same approved source as the RIPLAY, and the short answer names the main cost or condition and the main risk in the same two to four sentences as the benefit |
| Bank Indonesia | Payment service providers, e-money operators, money service businesses and money market participants; costs, benefits, risks and terms that are clear, accurate, honest and not misleading, in easy-to-understand Indonesian, with marketing held to the same standard | Bahasa Indonesia is the primary version of each answer page, not a translation of the English one, and the fee line is plain text in the answer block, never only in an image or an expandable panel |
| Bank Indonesia, product changes | Advance notice to consumers before product information changes take effect | Answer pages join the change calendar: the page update is drafted when the customer notice goes out and published on the day the change applies, so engines never quote the old terms as current |
What design decisions do OJK and Bank Indonesia rules force on an AI visibility programme?
Competitors describe themselves as compliance-aware. Here are the decisions that phrase should cover in Indonesia.
- The risk sentence sits inside the quotable block. Engines lift a paragraph and drop the page around it. If the fee or the risk lives in a footer, the engine quotes the cashback and loses the condition, which is exactly the incomplete picture both regulators warn against. We write the short answer so that the benefit, the main cost and the main risk sit together in one block.
- Bahasa Indonesia first, written for the question. Bank Indonesia expects easy-to-understand Indonesian, and many Indonesian buyers ask in Indonesian. We write the Indonesian answer page from the Indonesian prompt, then build the English page from it, and keep one approved spelling of the brand and product names in both.
- The regulator line names the right regulator for each activity. A bank with an e-money product, or a fintech with a lending arm and a payment licence, answers to more than one body. The entity block states, in plain text, which activity is supervised by OJK and which is licensed by Bank Indonesia, in the regulator’s own terms, and the same wording goes into the organisation schema.
- Change dates drive the publishing calendar. Because consumers must be told about changes in advance, the update to the answer page is written during that notice period, reviewed once with the notice itself, and goes live on the day the change applies.
None of these slows the work much when they are decided on day one. Every one of them costs a rewrite when they are discovered on day sixty.
What entity work does an Indonesian financial brand need before content?
Content does little if the engine is unsure who wrote it. The first month of a programme goes on the entity: making every public source describe the firm the same way.
That starts with one fact sheet. Legal name in full, trading name, app name, the regulator and licence type for each activity, the registered Jakarta address, the founding year, the parent group and the products actually offered. That sheet then drives the website’s about page and organisation schema, the LinkedIn company page, the Google Business Profile, app-store descriptions, directory profiles and the boilerplate at the foot of every press release, in both languages.
Then look at who else shares your name. A regional parent with the same brand in Malaysia or Singapore, a sister company in a different line of business, or a merged predecessor bank all compete for the same entity slot. Clear sameAs links, a distinct description and consistent disambiguating details, such as “an e-money issuer licensed by Bank Indonesia” or “a life insurer supervised by OJK”, help engines keep them apart.
Finally, retire the stale material. Old promotion pages that still rank, press releases quoting rates that have changed and help-centre articles for discontinued products are all sources an engine may quote as current. Redirect them, update them or mark them clearly as archived.
In a regulated category, the sentence an engine can trust is the one your compliance team has already approved.

How is AI search presence measured for an Indonesian financial brand?
You cannot manage what you only check by hand when a director forwards a screenshot. We measure presence on a prompt matrix, the same method we describe on our AI visibility agency page for BFSI brands.
The rows are buyer prompts: the questions a Jakarta customer, agent or partner would type, such as which e-wallets are licensed, which life insurers offer a given cover, or which digital banks suit a small business. Each prompt runs in Bahasa Indonesia and in English, because the answers differ. The columns are the engines: ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode with AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot and Claude. Each cell is scored Present, Partial or Absent, with a note on whether the description was accurate, whether it named the right regulator, and which sources the engine cited.
Two rules keep the matrix useful. The prompt set stays fixed, so month-on-month changes reflect the brand, not the questions. And each market gets its own matrix, because an engine asked from Jakarta can answer differently from one asked from Mumbai or Singapore. The scorecard is re-run on a set day each month and read at 30, 60 and 90 days. Our own starting point, measured the same way, is public in the AI visibility log for day one.
What we do not do is promise a position. No agency controls what an engine says. A programme can control whether the engine has clear, consistent and approved material to draw on, and whether you can see, month by month, what it does with it.
How does Yamm Labs work with financial brands in Jakarta?
Yamm Labs works from Gurugram. We have no office, licence or registered presence in Indonesia, and we do not claim an Indonesian client. International work runs remotely from Gurugram, with calls and reviews set across time zones; Jakarta is one and a half hours ahead of Gurugram, so most of the working day overlaps. Clients in India can meet the team in person.
The method was built on Indian BFSI, where SEBI, IRDAI, RBI, NPCI and AMFI rules shape the same kinds of decisions: where a fund’s standard risk warning sits, how an insurer shows its registered name in its advertising, how a lender states its rates, how a UPI app uses the network’s marks. The clients we can name, among them TATA AIA Life Insurance, HDFC Life, Axis Bank, Paytm Money and Aditya Birla Sun Life Mutual Fund, are Indian brands.
For an Indonesian programme, your compliance team remains the authority on what OJK or Bank Indonesia requires of you. We design the pages, the entity work and the measurement so that their review is quick and their answer is built in from the first draft. If you want the basics of the discipline first, our GEO and AEO FAQ for financial brands covers them.

People also ask
Can an Indonesian bank pay to be recommended by ChatGPT or Google AI Mode?
No agency can buy or guarantee a mention inside an engine’s answer. What a bank can do is make sure the engine finds clear, consistent and approved pages about it, in Bahasa Indonesia and English, then measure the result every month.
Do AI answer pages need OJK or Bank Indonesia approval?
Ask your compliance team how your regulator treats web content. Both bodies expect product information and marketing to be clear, accurate and not misleading. The safe course is to treat any page written to be quoted to customers as marketing and review it the same way.
Should a Jakarta financial brand publish answer pages in Bahasa Indonesia or English?
Both, with Bahasa Indonesia as the primary version. Many customers ask in Indonesian, Bank Indonesia expects easy-to-understand Indonesian, and an Indonesian prompt can surface different sources from an English one.
How long before an Indonesian brand sees a change in AI answers?
Entity fixes can show within weeks on engines that search the web live, while engines that lean on training data move slower. We read the prompt matrix at 30, 60 and 90 days and report what changed, including what did not.
What should an Indonesian financial brand fix first for AI visibility?
Start with the fact sheet. Make the legal name, trading name, app name and the regulator for each activity read the same way on the website, in organisation schema, on app-store listings and in press boilerplate, in Bahasa Indonesia and English. Then update or retire stale promotion pages that engines may quote as current. Build the prompt matrix after that, so progress is measured from a clean start.
Does a fintech supervised by OJK and licensed by Bank Indonesia need separate pages?
It needs one clear entity description that says which activity each regulator covers, and product pages that name the right regulator for that product. A lending product and an e-money product should not share a single regulator line. Use each regulator’s own terms, and confirm the current wording with your compliance team.
Can one AI visibility programme cover Indonesia and Malaysia?
The method carries over, but the pages and prompts do not. OJK, Bank Indonesia and the Malaysian regulators set different disclosure expectations, and buyers ask in different languages. Run a separate prompt matrix for each market and keep separate templates, even when the brand is the same.
